Western Washington University Rugby delivered a landmark day for the program, combining an impactful High School Talent ID Rugby Camp with a commanding Cascade Cup rematch performance against Central Washington University.
The day began with an outstanding WWU High School Talent ID Rugby Camp that welcomed 80 players from across British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon. The energy throughout the sessions reflected both the enthusiasm of the attendees and the strength of the WWU culture. Current Viking players served as coaches and mentors, guiding drills, encouraging competition, and modeling the standards that define the program. Many of Western’s athletes once attended similar camps themselves, making the moment a powerful full-circle experience. With strong talent emerging from across the region, the future pipeline for WWU Rugby looks promising.

As the afternoon progressed, anticipation built for the Cascade Cup rematch against Central Washington University. The rivalry carries deep roots in Pacific Northwest rugby, and Western entered the fixture with clear intent.
From the opening whistle, the Vikings took control. Playing with pace and purpose, WWU attacked from all areas of the field and dictated the tempo of the match. The performance reflected a team unwilling to wait for opportunities, instead creating and controlling outcomes through aggressive, confident play.

While the result reinforced Western’s growth and competitiveness, the program remains focused on refinement as it enters the final stretch of the season. Championship-level rugby demands balance—knowing when to accelerate the tempo and when to manage territory and possession. As the Vikings continue their push toward postseason play, sharpening decision-making and composure under pressure will be critical.
With three matches remaining before the next major benchmark, the foundation is firmly in place. The culture, standards, and brotherhood within the squad are aligning at the right time. The peak is in sight, and the final approach is officially underway.
