Western was back on the road this past weekend for three games across roughly 2,000 miles of travel. The results did not go the Vikings’ way, but the trip was another step for a program testing itself against strong opposition.
The D1A side traveled to Tucson and ran into a tough test at Arizona, falling 52-7. The pace and physicality were a clear step up, and it was the kind of result that sharpens the focus on what it takes to compete at this level.
At Oregon State, the NCRC side lost a winnable game 31-26, with costly mistakes making the difference. The NCRC 2 side closed out a long day of rugby with a 34-15 loss. There is work to do across all three groups, and plenty of room to grow.
“We have earned the opportunity to play at this level, and now we have to prove we belong here. There is no shortcut. We have to dig in, embrace the challenge, and keep rowing in the same direction,” said Head Coach Adam Roberts.
Up next, Western has a big week ahead with two games against UW in Seattle.
