It was a challenging afternoon at Harrington Field for Western Washington University Men’s Rugby as the Vikings faced a strong Trinity Western University side. While the contest ended in a tough loss, the performance revealed the grit, resilience, and determination that define this squad.
Trinity Western started strong, using their physicality and executing their game plan effectively in the opening stages. They capitalized on a few early errors to establish a lead and control momentum. Credit to Trinity Western for their start and early dominance.
What stood out most was Western’s response. Rather than letting the early deficit define the match, the Vikings dug in, battled back, and showcased tremendous character, especially in the second half. The team continued to fight for every phase, demonstrating the culture and commitment they’ve built throughout the season.
Home games provide a special opportunity for players to represent Western in front of friends, family, and supporters, and the energy on the sidelines made a difference. A special shout-out also goes to George Jelly and the TECH Crew for dominating the live stream—your work behind the scenes is a massive part of the program’s growth.
Looking ahead, the Vikings turn their focus to their final home game of the season against Oregon, a key opportunity to finish strong. Following the match, the team will celebrate Blue and White Night, recognizing the players and program progress this year.
Beyond the season, the squad is also preparing for an international tour to the South of England from August 26 through September 6, a unique experience that will strengthen team culture, competition, and lifelong connections. With the National Quarterfinal on April 11 in Northern California approaching, the Vikings remain focused on working hard, trusting the process, and finishing the season with determination.
