On February 22, 2025, Western Washington University Rugby welcomed over 100 high school athletes from across the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia for a free, high-energy High School Rugby Clinic held at Harrington Field.
Designed for players of all skill levels—from newcomers to seasoned competitors—the three-hour clinic delivered expert instruction in the latest rugby techniques, tactics, and strategies. Participants rotated through eight dynamic skill stations led by WWU Rugby coaches and current players from the WWU Men’s Rugby team, who shared their knowledge and enthusiasm for the game.
Athletes from Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia trained in a fast-paced, positive environment alongside other passionate young rugby players. The day’s activities culminated in the crowd-favorite “Fastest Rugby Player” competition, testing the sprinting speed of participants in a thrilling finish.
Following the on-field session, players gathered for an informative presentation on nutrition and diet for elite athletes, offering key insights on how to fuel performance and recovery.
Each attendee received a WWU Rugby T-shirt and enjoyed a post-clinic pizza social, generously provided by the Western Rugby Alumni (WRA), reinforcing the strong support system surrounding the program.
To cap off an unforgettable day, participants had the opportunity to watch WWU Rugby secure an exciting 40-24 victory over Oregon State University at Harrington Field—an inspiring performance that gave clinic attendees a firsthand look at the next level of collegiate rugby.
WWU Rugby is proud to foster the next generation of rugby talent and looks forward to hosting future clinics as the sport continues to grow throughout the region.
