On September 20th, 2024, the Western Washington Alumni Association proudly hosted the Annual Golf Day Out, an event that continues to grow as a highlight of the WWU Rugby calendar. Under clear skies and a shared sense of purpose; players, alumni, and supporters came together not only to enjoy a day on the course but also to celebrate the strong and ever-growing rugby community that surrounds Western Rugby.
A day of friendly competition, great prizes, and reconnecting with fellow alumni, the Golf Day Out offered more than just a round of golf. Participants enjoyed a full slate of contests with prizes for putting, pitching, longest drive, straightest drive, and closest to the pin. Off the course, the event featured a delicious meal, 50/50 raffles, silent auction items, and even a spirited poker run—making for a well-rounded day of fun and community engagement.
More than just a golf tournament, the day served as an important fundraiser for the WWU Men’s Rugby Club. Thanks to the incredible support from our attendees and sponsors, the tournament raised an outstanding $12,390, directly benefiting the continued growth and success of the program.
This year’s event featured a spirited turnout and some friendly competition, with the winning foursome proudly taking top honors. Pictured from right to left in front of the WWU Rugby tent are the tournament champions: Nathan Mathis, Eric Mathis, Hayden Cross, Charlie Funk, and their caddy, Peter Nourse. Their energy, teamwork, and enthusiasm set the tone for a memorable day.
The event was made possible by the generous support of our sponsors, including The Fields Tennant Group at Baird, whose presence helped elevate the event and furthered the mission of the rugby program.
Whether you were there to compete, connect with old teammates, or simply enjoy a day in the sun, the Annual Golf Day Out was a reminder of the powerful bond shared among Western Rugby alumni and supporters. We’re already looking forward to next year’s outing and hope to see even more of our rugby family there.
