Western Washington University Rugby experienced a weekend of strong performances and meaningful progress across both squads, highlighted by a dominant victory for the 2XV and a hard-fought test for the 1XV against quality opposition.
The Viking's 2XV delivered an outstanding performance at Bayside Rugby Club, earning a decisive 54–0 victory. The result was a clear reflection of the group’s hard work, preparation, and commitment coming together on the field. From the opening whistle, Western controlled the match and played with confidence, energy, and cohesion, finishing the day with smiles and momentum. The 2XV now turns its focus to a highly anticipated matchup against United RFC in Canada in two weeks, a chance to seek redemption following a fall meeting.
Meanwhile, the Viking's 1XV faced a strong Cal Poly side in a challenging contest that showcased both the program’s progress and the areas still being refined. Western matched Cal Poly’s level physically and emotionally, proving once again that the Vikings can compete against top-tier opposition. While execution under pressure and a few costly moments ultimately impacted the final result, the team displayed resilience, passion, and a willingness to fight for one another throughout the match.
"Loved the heart and passion that we played with, but disappointed in the end result..." said Head Coach, Adam Roberts
The experience served as another valuable step forward, reinforcing the standards required and contributing to the team’s continued growth.
Across both matches, the weekend underscored the direction of the program—competitive, resilient, and steadily improving. These are the types of performances that build belief, sharpen execution, and prepare WWU Rugby for what lies ahead.
