As Western Washington University Men’s Rugby enters the final two weeks of its season, a clear sense of purpose and momentum continues to build around the program. The Vikings now find themselves in the final phase of their journey, where months of preparation, discipline, and growth begin to converge. With the postseason on the horizon, the group is focused, confident, and ready for the challenge ahead.
This past weekend marked a fitting conclusion to the 2XV season, as Western played in a jamboree-style set of matches at deWilde Chuckanut Fields. The Vikings took on both the Rhinos and Chuckanut in 40-minute contests, delivering a strong all-around performance that reflected the development of the squad throughout the year.
Across both matches, Western showcased improved confidence, cohesion, and execution. The 2XV produced a number of standout moments that highlighted both individual talent and collective growth. Zaylen Vaquero sparked excitement with a brilliant kick-and-chase effort, while Peter Nourse displayed impressive agility with a sharp, elusive run. Ezra Parent demonstrated strong awareness and support play, consistently putting himself in the right positions to contribute, and Tyler Ruffel provided one of the most memorable moments of the day with a powerful 80-meter run that energized both teammates and supporters.
The performances served as a clear indication of how far the 2XV has come this season. From development and depth to execution under pressure, the group has taken significant strides, laying a strong foundation for the future of the program.
Now the focus shifts fully to the final stretch to Indianapolis. The squad will narrow its attention to the top 30 players as preparations intensify for the challenges ahead. Over the next two weeks, the emphasis will be on refining details, reinforcing standards, and committing fully to the final push.
The goal remains in clear sight, and the Vikings understand what it will take to reach it. As the season approaches its defining moments, the climb continues, and Western Washington Rugby is ready to meet it head-on.
