Western Rugby Alumni
Supporting amateur rugby in the Northwest since 2012
Greetings Alumni, Friends, Family, and Community Supporters,
The Western Rugby Alumni are excited to extend an invitation to you to participate in the 5th Annual Blue & White Auction Dinner, to be held Saturday, February 25, 2017. At the new Holiday Inn near the Bellingham Airport.
WWU Men’s Rugby club will be playing the Eastern Washington University Eagles on campus earlier in the day so plan on making it a RUGBY DAY by attending the match in the afternoon and the Blue & White Dinner Auction in the evening.
This event raises money to support WWU Men’s Rugby Club. As with all the other club sports at the University, WWU Men’s Rugby Club receives limited financial support via the Campus Rec Department. This means the club members must pay dues and rely on donations from alumni and friends to offset the cost of travel, uniforms, training equipment, and other miscellaneous expenses.
This is where the Western Rugby Alumni (WRA) come in…in addition to providing coaching for the Club, WRA’s main goal is to raise funds to cover some of the expenses outlined above and our primary fund raiser is the annual Blue & White Dinner/Auction.
With WRA support since the organization’s formation in 2012, we have helped the WWU Men’s Rugby Club compete in the 2012 USA Rugby National 7’s Championships at Texas A & M University, the 2013 USA Rugby National Championship (Final Four) at Bowling Green University in Ohio, the 2015 USA Rugby Championships West Regional Semi-finals at the University of California, Davis, and the boys just recently returned from the West Coast 7’s in San Francisco where they won the consolation round by beating UCLA, Air Force Academy, and Cal Poly over the course of the two day tournament.
In addition, the Vikings compete in the Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference (NCRC) against eight other schools and this year must travel to Boise, Pullman, Eugene, and Seattle to fulfill their NCRC obligations.
Last year’s Blue & White was a great event, the best yet. It was highlighted by guest speaker Jake Locker, former Quarterback for the University of Washington and the NFL’s Tennessee Titans.
The event will again be hosted by Western Rugby Alumni Director of Rugby, and BC Rugby Union Hall of Fame member, Paul Horne, who always makes sure it is a lively, fun, and enjoyable evening.
Remember, WRA is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization so your donations and much of what you buy at the event will be tax deductible.
To make this evening really work, we need one thing: Your help!
And here is how you can help:
- Please consider donating or soliciting a donation of an item to the silent or live auction. These items can be donated from yourself, your employer, or a local business. Popular auction items in the past have included weekend get aways, rounds of golf, dinner/hotel packages, adventure excursions and much more. See attached donation form to complete.
- Please mark your calendar and plan to attend the event on February 25th. As an attendee, you have the chance to meet WWU Men’s Rugby Club team members and bid on auction items to support them. Individual seats or tables can be purchased by going to the website (or click here on the ‘Events’ tab) and completing the online registration and payment via PayPal.
We greatly appreciate your consideration of a donation and your attendance at the event. We look forward to supporting the WWU Men’s Rugby Club as they continue their education, play a great team sport and put Western on the map as a school to attend for a first class education and the opportunity to play top class rugby.
Please contact USA Rugby Hall of Fame member Jeff Lombard regarding donations, tickets for the event, or other questions:

Again, WRA is an IRS 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization so any donations made are fully tax deductible.
