Blue and White Dinner Auction Update

Jeff Lombard, chair of the Blue and White Dinner Auction, announced Thursday, January 28, 2016 that Jake Locker, who led Ferndale High School to the 3A State Football Championship, was an All American at UW, was the 8th pick overall in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans (retired in March of 2014) will be the guest speaker at the 4th Annual Blue White Dinner Auction to be held Saturday, March 5, 2016.

After Jake retired from football he moved back to roots, back to Ferndale with his wife Lauren and their two children.

The Blue and White Dinner Auction will be held at Bellingham Tech’s Settlemyer Hall beginning at 5:30 pm.

The WWU Men’s Rugby Club will be playing the UW Men’s Rugby Club at 1:00 pm at Harrington Filed that day. That match could determine the NCRC West Division first place team and likely secure home field advantage in the NCRC Playoffs scheduled to begin in the early April.

Make it a day by attending the rugby game in the afternoon and the Blue and White Dinner Auction that evening. You will see some great rugby and enjoy a great evening of fun. More importantly you will be supporting the WWU Men’s Rugby Club with your participation.

4th Annual Blue & White Dinner Auction

Western Rugby Alumni –

Supporting amateur rugby in the Northwest since 2012

Greetings Friends, Family, and Community Supporters,

The Western Rugby Alumni are excited to extend an invitation to you to participate in the 4th Annual Blue & White Auction Dinner, to be held Saturday, March 5th, 2016 at Bellingham Technical College’s Settlemyer Hall.

WWU Men’s Rugby Club will be playing the University of Washington Huskies on campus earlier in the day so plan to make a full day of it by attending the match in the afternoon and the Blue & White Dinner Auction in the evening.

This event raises money to support WWU Men’s Rugby Club and youth rugby in the Northwest. The WWU Men’s Rugby Club have recently represented the University in the 2013 USA Rugby National D1-AA Final Four in Bowling Green, Ohio, the 2012 USA Rugby National 7’s Tournament at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, and the 2015 USA Rugby West Regional National Semi-Finals at University California – Davis, in Davis, California. The Vikings, who have won three of the last four Northwest Collegiate Rugby Conference 15’s Championships, have had a very successful 2015-16 season so far and winning another NCRC Championship and securing a seed in 2016 USA Rugby D1-AA National Championship Tournament is achievable.

As with all the other club sports WWU Men’s Rugby Club gets limited financial support from University, making this event critical for raising money to help the players cover the cost of travel, equipment, and other expenses.

The dinner auction will have in attendance alumni, community members, parents, friends, and anyone who supports youth rugby and the goals of the Men’s Rugby program at WWU. Paul Horne, Emcee, auctioneer, Director of Rugby for WRA, and BC Rugby Union Hall of Fame inductee, always makes sure it is a lively and enjoyable evening, so please make plans to attend.

Here is how you can help:

  1. Please consider donating an item to the silent or live auction. These items can be donated from yourself, your employer, or a local business. Popular auction items in the past have included weekend get-away, rounds of golf, dinner/hotel packages, adventure excursions and much more. See attached donation form for you to complete.
  1. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend the event on March 5th. At the event you can meet the team members and purchase auction items to support them. Individual seats or tables are open for purchase for the dinner auction.

Visit our website at www.wwurugby.org and click on the “Events” tab for additional details.

We greatly appreciate your consideration of a donation and/or attending the event. We look forward to supporting the WWU Men’s Rugby Club as they continue their education, play a team sport and put Western on the map as a school to attend for scholastics and rugby.

Please contact Jeff Lombard for direction on donations, tickets for the event or questions:

WWU Vikings vs UBC Thunderbirds

Last weekend, the mighty Vikings took on the UBC Thunderbirds U-21 side at Chuckanut Bay Rugby’s Polo Fields in Ferndale. There was a full slate of games on tap for the day with the Vikings and the T-birds playing first, then the WWU 2’s took on the Chuckanut Bay 2’s, and finally the afternoon finished up with Chuckanut Bay playing the Snake River Rugby Club from Idaho.

Despite the dire predictions of cold, blustery, wet weather the day turned out pretty nice. It was a bit breezy in the morning but not too bad and the temps were quite pleasant for the whole day. Continue reading WWU Vikings vs UBC Thunderbirds

Viking 7’s Tournament Report

It was a spectacular weekend for the 3rd Viking 7’s Tournament on the campus of Western Washington University last weekend. The weather couldn’t have been better, Harrington Field was prepped and ready to go, and with the teams that had entered the 7’s rugby promised to be quite entertaining.

The WWU Men’s Rugby Club administration, club President Wiatt Vasey, Vice President Nick Bonovich, Secretary Nate Muir, Treasurer Josh Reiner, and head minion Louie Henson, did a spectacular job crossing all the ‘t’s and dotting all the ‘i’s in setting everything up with Clark Cripps at Campus Rec and the University. Especially appreciated was the trainer who was on the field for both days of the tourney. Well done, everyone. Continue reading Viking 7’s Tournament Report

Mahalo…

IT’S ALMOST TIME TO ROCK AND ROLL!

Well, August is almost over and head 7’s coach, Adam Roberts, and Paul Horne, Director of Rugby for Western Rugby Alumni,  have put together the first practice plan for the fall season.

In anticipation of the teams first action of the season in the Viking 7’s Tournament (which will be held September 26th and 27th, 2015, on the campus of Western Washington University), Roberts and Horne have announced the following schedule:

September 12, 2015:  7’s training sessions at 10 am and 2 pm

September 13, 2015:  7’s training sessions at 10 am and 2 pm

According to Coach Horne and Coach Roberts, “All interested players are welcome to attend whether you plan on playing 7’s or 15’s in the fall, but the emphasis will be on getting ready for 7’s.  Incoming new players and returning players who are not 7’s players are encouraged to be there.

If you have any questions contact Coach Roberts.

And to use that well worn Russell Wilson theme, “Separation is in the preparation…”

Go Vikings!
